Memory doesn't work by osmosis. Our memory is connected to our internal clock. Each event in our lives is time stamped with the time day coordinates. That's how we can remember what we did on a given day last week, or what we had for dinner last night. Or how we know when it's time to wake up.

For music one needs to be able to analyze and identify the sound characteristics of the music so they can be preserved in memory. The subtle characteristics too. Air, tone, dynamic range, speed, pace, realism, how much the music grabs you. If you can't remember something it's very likely because it was never put in memory. Some things just aren't retrievable from memory. Memory is a skill, memory can be improved, like tennis or reading speed and comprehension. Practice makes perfect.

The wonder of flowers to be covered and then to burst up

Or to fly to the sun without burning a wing
To lie in a meadow and hear the grass sing
To have all these things in our memories hoard
And to use them
To help us
To find...
