That was the dawn of the CD era--I actually interviewed MTT about it for DIGITAL AUDIO magazine.

BTW, the famous clarinet glissando was a practical joke played (literally) by the clarinettist on Gershwin during in a rehearsal, and Gershwin liked it so much that he added the wiggly marking to the score!
