I don't see why not. Most cable management amounts to a hole in the back of the the shelf. The hole is usually about 3" in diameter. The only thing I would consider using cable management for is the AC lines. You don't want your interconnects running parallel to the AC lines in that close a proximity. There are some racks with metal frames that have a crossmember running up and down in the center back. Thes offer holes where you can runn the cables down the center of this crossmember, these are even worse. If you are trying to achieve the best possible sound [aren't we all], I believe it is ok to cable tie all of your AC cords together, but let your interconnects hang free. Carefully place them so they are not touching the AC lines or any other interconnect. For what we pay for interconnects, I think they should be on display, afterall to an audiophile cables are beautiful.
Cable management should not be a deciding factor in buying or building shelves.
