Here's one quick recipe for sonic heaven. Base your system on Quad electrostatic speakers in combination with a Gradient subwoofer. The Quads will give you clarity and detail you just can't get from conventional speakers. The Gradient subwoofer is known for being a perfect match with Quads; it fills in the bottom end seamlessly. For amplification I'd suggest tube equipment; I'm partial to Audio Research and conrad johnson. For the preamplifier I'd choose Audible Illusions. Get recommendations for CD player, cables, and turntable from other inmates. Cost of the total system is roughly 15-18k, with all new components. Save up to 1/2 if you buy used. Won't shake the rafters, but will be superb for classical and jazz music at moderate volumes.Good luck with your search,
Vac
