For centuries, philosophers and others (Galileo weighed in on this) have argued about the relative merits and place of the so-called primary and secondary qualities, which is actually the same problem. If you think of measured, quantitative "quailities" as primary ones, and perceived (with thesenses) qualities as secondary ones, you can see the parallel. Many thousands of pages have been written about this, and a web search will lead you to more than you want to know about the subject. I think on this Board it has almost turned into something like a religious discussion, with there being absolutes and rights and wrongs, whereas I believe the situation is actually quite simple. But then, I've posted on this before, and I'm sure no one wants to hear it again.Joe
