No - that could be one of TWO things. A negative result reported (failure to hear) COULD be the result of expectation bias (won't hear it) or a simple case of the difference being below the threshold of audibility (can't hear it).

Placebo effect only refers to a perceived result from an imagined source or an "imposter" source that exists physically but (purposely) does nothing. If you put a product in place that is "supposed" to work, then you are NOT using a placebo.

If you put a clock from Walmart with an orange sticker on it in place of a Clever Little Clock, you could call the Walmart clock a placebo.

But this has nothing to do with how we go about defining exactly WHAT (if anything) a "real" Clever Clock actually does, and whether or not folks can hear the (alleged) differences / improvements it's supposed to make.
