Unless I am mistaken, WGMS is(was) the #1 rated classical station in the US. That seems pretty successful, one would think. You can dispute that with Jim Allison, former program director of WGMS, now the new program director of WETA. WGMS was around for 60 years. After WETA stopped broadcasting classical music, the quality of WGMS didn't go down from lack of competition.
It's always easy to criticize something. Do your classical friends feel that XM or Sirius radio has better classical broadcasting? Have them contact WETA with suggestions on improvements. Regardless of competition, it's all we have left in DC now.
