REVIEW: Bryston B60R Integrated Amplifier (SS)

208.136.90.125

Agree with the review below, basically. The B60 lacks all the nasties typically associated with solid state; it even sounds slightly warm, though one would never mistake this for a tube amp. I have to agree that the preamp section is better than the power amp section. The B60 has preamp out jacks, so you can use this as a standalone preamp, which is how I'm using mine. Combined with a Conrad Johnson MV50 power amp, this makes serious music. The CJ gives the sound the fullness, warmth, vividness, and for lack of a better word, "aliveness" that the Bryston lacks when used as an integrated. And unlike a lot of full function preamps, the Bryston doesn't have way too much gain-12db, about right for the MV50, and all but the most insensitive power amps. And if your tube amp goes down, why, you've got a built in power amp that will do yeoman service for you until you can get your toober up and running again.
