Re: John, reread my post..I am on your side....

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough in the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of my original post. I did not intend to say that, if-and this is a huge IF-there is indeed illegal price-fixing going on, there should not be action taken simply because the industry is small. There is, however, an issue of priorities here and I for one would see a government "crackdown" on audiophile equipment manufacturers & retailers as an appalling waste of taxpayers' money that could be far better spent on investigations into pharmaceutical, oil, agricultural, and, yes, even insurance companies, to name just a few. (Some years ago a "measurements only" advocate & member of the AES actually induced the Manhattan District Atorney's office to spend a bunch of time looking into audiophile cable pricing as a "fraudulent" practice harmful to consumers; eventually the "case" was dropped, but not before it cost tax dollars and time that could have been far more effectively applied elsewhere.)

I would suggest that you go back and read my post in its entirety to try to understand my main purpose which I will also restate: There are a lot of people in this hobby who seem to think they have some sort of entitlement to buy equipment at prices they want to set. These individuals have absolutely no sense of the costs involved in the development, manufacture, distribution, and retailing of this or any other kind of product. Furthermore, they often seem to fit the classic "champagne taste, beer budget" mold and, when they can't afford the items they want, plunge into these paranoid, conspiracy snits.

Not one of us MUST have an expensive stereo system. Unlike shelter, food, water, etc., we CAN live without it, or can even, if necessary, listen to a $200 shelf system from Best Buy. (This assumes, of course, that it really is the music, not the equipment, that matters, as all of us are always quick to profess.)

So, for God's sake, let us get this in perspective and stop dumping on a handful of frequently struggling entrepeneurs who often do what they do as a labor of love and as a side venture to other business or work activities.

I repeat: If you think it's overpriced, don't buy it. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
