The original question I had was whether it was requisite for the clock oscillator to be an exact multiple of the sample rate to execute synchronous sample-rate conversion. (I see it being a major help, but I'm not sure if it's requisite. I'd personally use such an oscillator.) The original answer you gave provided the impression that I may not have stated the question clearly.I thread we ended up on was totally off of this topic. If I learned anything, it's the origin (or near-origin) of the "zero-stuffing" myth. And I cannot blame you or Christine for thinking that, for it's from a data sheet from a reputable semiconductor manufacturer, not an outside audio designer speculating how the process works.
