AS,I have had a dedicated audio computer for 2 1/2 years now. It also functions as s digital crossover, room correction, upsampling. It can record at very high rates 32/200khz. I highly recomend it, as it is way more flexible, and sounds better than my old $2k digital trans/dac system, and will do so much more.
I don't have any SACD or DVD-a content, but I know it is possible to play these on a PC. Infact, audio asylum has a dedicated PC audio forum and that question was asked fairly recently:

Buy a good card from a "prosumer" company like Lynx or RME especially if you are recording. Also, you will definately want ASIO support..which better cards support.
