I haven't heard the newer of the less expensive version, so I can't comment, but´generally within any group the improvements are amrginal as when the 33 became the 36.Sorry I can't help you more. When i did most of my auditioning that was at least a year ago, and i quickly decidéd to move up into the 192-T price range for my digitally filtered DAC.
