Jolida JD100a remote problem..

I bought the player new allmost a year ago, and have never tried the remote as my rack is near to my seat.
The player itself has worked flawlessly, but I have allways wandered why there was no pause button or how to get it into standby mode.
So I recently figured that maybe the remote had those features, so I pulled it out the closet and put in some batteries.

However to my surprise not only did it not have the features I was looking for, but it didn't work period.
I pressed and pointed and changed batteries, nothing happened.
Should the little LED at the end flash when I press a button ?
Any way of telling if its the remote or the deck?
I don't really care about it, its just one more thing to clutter the place, but if I ever put it on AGon, the next guy may have to have it.
