Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Yeah, I'm with you Ted

I was thinking about my LSO Live SACD of Verdi's Falstaff or the Pentaton SACD that I just bought of some Russian violin concerti (different composers) featuring a new violinist who sounds as pretty as she looks (sorry, the name escapes me).

At first listening, especially if your ear has been conditioned to the sound of CD, it seems like these recordings are "missing something." After a while, you figure out that they are missing something -- that steely sheen that RBCD seems to add to the sound of massed strings and orchestral brass. Of course, if your listening tastes run to jazz trios and rock, you're unlikely to notice this as much.

The other thing that characterizes both these recordings is rather wide dynamic range, although I suppose there's no reason why RBCD can't do the equivalent. The thing is, though, the loud passages emphasize the difficulties in RBCD playback... and you don't hear that with SACD playback.
