DVD players handle audio track selection not receivers. Whatever sound/language option you select in the movie menu is what will be transmited to the digital out. How else would the receiver know which audio track you wanted to listen to? Does your receiver show you what the input signal is (mine gives me text and visual feedback as to how many channels are being input)? If so, switch between a 2.0 and a 5.1 track and you will see that the DVD player outputs only the audio track you selected.
