Hi, this is a different Alan but I'll answer anyway. The balanced AES/EBU specification calls for a cable with a 110 ohm impedance, which regular balanced mic cables from Guitar Center do not have. Others on this forum have said they didn't hear a difference between a proper AES/EBU cable and a standard balanced xlr cable. I find that in going from the CD player to the DEQ2496, I like prefer the sound of an optical toslink cable instead of using the spdif output to the EAS/EBU input with an RCA to XLR adapter. However, since you will be able to go AES/EBU to EAS/EBU from the SRC to the DEQ, you may have better luck. While I don't own a SRC2496, the reason for using it before the DEQ is that the DEQ can then perform its digital signal processing on a 24 bit higher resolution signal instead of a 16 bit / 44.1kHz, and hence offer supposedly better quality. I haven't tried it myself but would definitely like to know what kind of difference you hear in your system with the SRC in place as compaired to leaving it out.
