Neil is also right about synergy, it plays a huge role. However, I think that there are other players in the same price range that significantly exceed its performance. The Rega Planet 2000, for instance, when it was in my system was substantially better than the Roksan Kandy mkIII and for about the same price. I have no reason to doubt the Rega Apollo is superior to the Planet 2000, so it should be a marvellous bargain.

The Roksan Caspian M is a very nice CD player, but not quite the right synergy in my system, and it may also be able to be found used near this price point, if one wants to stick with Roksan.

So by 'not very good' perhaps I should've said it sounded very poor in my system and was significantly bettered by players for a similar price and that other things are probably worth considering over it.
