Interesting experience. Wonder if it was poor synchronicity with your other components? As noted, it is pretty smooth in my system.Of course, I seen people dislike expensive as well as low cost equipment but I believe this is the first really negative comment I seen on the SB3 sound quality. Most seem to indicate it is a real value with the balance saying it is decent for the money.
As they used to say in the car commercials, "your mileage may vary."
