Phillips CD-80 - Worth Acquiring?

A friend of mine has a Phillips CD-80 that he wants to sell me to raise some funds for new gear. This cd player is in excellent condition and simply massive in weight (not sure what that means in a cd player in addition to mass meaning vibration reduction).
He said this was a top player for him for many years but I know he recently upgraded to a new mid-priced player that he said provides a lot more detail. I think the CD-80 is from around 1990.
Is the CD-80 worth acquiring for some mod'ing or has it seen its best days?
