I have one, never willing to remove it either, once I put it in my system. Mine is between pre and amp, by the way, and it works on FM and CD sources.In my system it did NOT soften the high end or roll off anything. It does improve the sense of realism. Have had it for years so cannot recall all the benefits. They're not dramatic at all, but they're clearly notable. No downsides.
My main components are NAD and speakers VR1. So I'm not the very high end by any means.
