I have the second generation Stereovox Digital cable, great cable for $150, bu have not tried others so can't speak to the sensitivity to cables. There may be factors other than jitter, however, to consider.As for battery, I'm using the Optima yellow top, get a lot of play time between charges. Didn't try the red top, agree with you that the yellow top seems more suited since it's designed for deep discharge
