I'll second the Cary 303...

...especially since you liked the sound of the Lector. Very balanced player but terrific, tuneful bass and a dramatic presentation. You might also audition the new Cary 306.

I haven't heard the Stibbert but I'm guessing from talking with folks who have that it might also fill your bill. The Wadia is a classy player but a different flavor family from the Cary, Lector and Blue Note players.

Having heard the Opus 21, I would say it's lack of dynamics and rhythmic power may not float your boat.

I'm not a huge Naim fan but you can't beat them for PRAT.

I'm the "wife" and I thought the Lector looked fine - is it the 2 box chassis yours objects to?
