It wasn't too bad on CD playback in its day, but didn't at all match top model CD players at that time. It may possibly hold its own with some good budget CD players now but certainly, IMHO, is not even remotely close to the sound quality of "current top models". So, if you're looking for an "outstanding" used CD player then I'd say that the Pioneer will not cut it for you.I hope you find something that will work well for you.
