Tosh 3950 - 3960 compatible remote?

Hi folks,
I have a Toshiba 3950 with remote - which I intend to mod - if I can replace it in the house HT system. I can find some 3960's from ebay in canada for a good price without the remote. Is the remote compatible or am I asking for grief?
