I will try to brief!I have had my Apollo since mid December which makes it amongst the earlier available units in the UK, and have had no problems until a couple of months ago.
Since then I have had intermittant sticking, skipping and not playing certain tracks. This is worse on CDR's but also on red book CD's.
There has also been a few initialising problems where an alarming clicking noise came fro the unit, although I was prepared to acccept that this could have been caused by me not seating the CD properly and happened infrequently.
Last week I used the program facility to pick four quiet tracks for late night listening which played perfectly. The next day I pressed 'play' and the machine would not play the CD. Nothing in the system had been switched off, the program was still set and the CD had not been removed.
There have been a few other problems but you get the idea.
I spoke to my dealer who said that he was not aware of any problems but would contact Rega for me.
He called me back and said that Rega wanted my Apollo back to do a software mod. Rega currently have the Apollo and it is due back Friday.I have not told the dealer that I am aware that there are issues with the Apollo but I will ask for an explanation of what Rega found and ask to see the report (if there is one.) If it is an upgrade I will ask if it is being incorporated into new models and can I have details, as I would wish to pass the upgrade info on to a buyer if and when I decide to sell the machine.
If this is my dealer giving me wrong information (or Rega giving it to him) and the fault lies elsewhere I would hope to discover this.As long as I get back a trouble free machine I really don't care as I love the sound! I have my old CDP in use at the moment and I really miss the Apollo.
