Polarity inversion refers to the speaker wiring and may be induced by reversing the wires on ONE channel - this causes a dramatic loss of image focus and may be demonstrated using a test CD. Phase inversion as performed by the button on your player inverts BOTH channels polarity and is therefore much less audible - some equipment (amps and players) change this depending on their electronics. My experience with phase inversion on the Moon Eclipse is that it sometimes makes a small difference, on some recordings, and often seems to make no discernible audible difference at all - why this should be so I don't know - anyone ?
