CAL CL-2500 dvd VS. Sony DVP999es - prog vs no prog scan

Hi All,
I recently collected enough loose change from my couch (all my audio buddies coming over and havin' a few) to consider a new digital source.

I'm currently using the Sony 999es to great success however I see that it hiccups on less than flawless discs (netflix). I've been looking into one particular player, the CL-2500 DVD from CAL but cannot find one useful piece of info online.

I know to take reviews with a grain of salt since ya just don't know who's in bed with who and how much of a "greasing" the reviewer is getting.

So now, I turn to you my fellow audionuts, for some advice on the two players.

I really do enjoy the 2ch from the Sony but I understand the CAL 2500 to truly be in another league of performance...even if it is on par with the Sony, I'd be happy.

My dilemma rests in the lack of Prog scan from the CAL. I own an older Mits RPTV that still puts some poorly set up 1080i displays to shame. My Mits has 1080i capability via an outboard scaler or HD feed via coax but no HDMI or DVI ins.

My goal? To truly have a one box player (limited shelf space and WAF) that can satisfy the videophile as well as the 2 ch tube junkie that I is. I'm really not worried sonically, more so from the video performance with one have Prog Scan and the other without it.

Is the CAL's interlaced video performance as good as the Sony's prog scan perf? I know it's almost like apples to oranges however I have heard "stories" where one's 480i outperformed a 480p on the same monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
