Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

This method is so easy, even I did it. The instructions are for a single I.C.
I used 2, two foot lengths of straight Belden 1506a and stripped it to its foam core.
I then removed the wire. Pull & twist with a plier. Once it's loose, it slides out easily. For a 2 foot length anyway.
Now you have nothing but 2 lengths of foam.
Hold both foam cores together at one end and apply one 1/4 inch of non-adhesive heatshrink (tape), 1/4 inch in from the end. which now ties both cores together at one end.
Twist the 2 cores together, tight as you can, as if you were making Jon Risch's twisted pair.
Heat-shrink (tape) as you did on first end.
Slide each silver wire (ends stripped and tinned, if applicable) under heatshrink past end of cores (the distance needed to match your RCA's) and just guide each wire down the two "valleys" created by the twists along the entire length just using your fingers.
The wire actually travels down the length of the cores as if on tracks. The wire even stays firmly in the valleys, forming a double helix, all by itself. You can even do both wires at the same time.
Add another 1/4 inch of heatshrink (tape) on end 2, and you have a very sturdy, quite flexible (remember, the 1506 cores now contain no wires) cable. To trim and tin the last wire end, you could use a piece of string to determine length and do both ends at the beginning. Or, just back off core to finish. Then just follow Chris's formula (solder to RCA's, wrap in plumbers tape etc.)
The horizontal separation is 1/2 inch between wires. 1 inch for each wire's full turn.
The vertical separation is 1/8 th inch. The same as JR's twisted pair, but less than Chris's 1/4" separation. I don't know if this matters.
I don't know if it's as good as the original, but it's very
sturdy, and oh, so easy.
So, what-a-ya-think???
