Housing costs have clearly exceeded earnings potential

"Without additional funding, the Salvation Army has concerns around possible closure at the end of December, once the prior year's funding is spent, Hoyle said — putting 65 shelter beds at risk. The $980,897 funding request would fund the beds for another year."

That's like $1500 per month to live in a homeless shelter or about what one would earn working at McDonalds. I hope that includes food, clothing and medical expenses, but it probably doesn't.

So, this is a structural problem of a society, basically, so the problem cannot really go away by itself.
