Anyway, the mine was operated by the Ocean Coal Company, which was a subsidiary of Berwind-White Coal Company. It was Ocean Mine No. 2, established in 1900, that blew out here.
Since both companies are long gone, cleanup is the responsibility of the Commonwealth of PA and resources are limited.
