One of my friends got a pair with a 1" adapter, and your decription applies very well to what I saw.
I might add that the adapters had a very bad integration with the rest of the horn and constituted a small chamber between the driver and the horn.
The whole thing looked and measured as crap, with some serious frequency anomalities.
To ask 500USD for things like this is outrageous.
