Distortion problems with power amp

I just bought a used Adcom GFA-535, and I'm having some problems with distortion in the left channel. When I first powered it up, there was a pop from the left speaker, and the "instantaneous distortion alert" light for the left channel was on. I did some listening, and there is definitely a significant amount coming from the speaker. I thought maybe it was my preamp, but the light comes on even if my IC's aren't plugged in to the amp. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
