It wouldn't surprise me at all. They may be figuring out the benefits of adopting/modify an existing Class-D module vs the commitment to designing and building Class-D circuitry in-house.
I use a Class-D power amp myself and really enjoy the clean signal amplification and speaker control it provides. I don't hear the switching frequency noise that some people claim to hear, nor do I think it sounds "sterile". For me, it's simply a very transparent amplifier that drives my speakers with ease.
