Many thanks for your reply, i thinks I might buy me self one ! Let you know how I get on.....Best regards,
Heard one in 86. Nearly bought it. A little warmer than the 4140 which was a slightly more powerful unit w/o tone controls but mc/mm.Reviews in Absolute sound (when it had a lot more followers) were positive and one reviewer, not w/o controversy rated it ahead of Audiolab 8000, Mission Cyrus II w/ Cyrus II power supply, Creek 4140, and the Naim Nait I, which was its closest competition.
After hearing the Nait, I went for it and have never regretted it since. The DINS are not really a problem.
If you are considering buying one, it would depend on the price. I think that its market would be below all the amps listed, and it might constitute a bargain.
I've had one since about 1984. It still works perfectly and I used in as my main amp for over ten years. In spite of its conservative power rating (35 watts/ch) it's one of those amps that sound significantly more powerful than it's rated. My biggest complaint was the DIN connectors for the inputs instead of RCA jacks. I had to buy several 5-pin DINs and wire my own interconnects up, a learning experience in itself, but it was worth it.
The newer Creeks are very good units. One caveat is they are designed for powered sub units. So what this translates into in real life is a weak bass with no powered sub. Otherwise a great mid and treble. Creek is a fine name in the more common modern day semi-audiophile grade units.
