OK Jack, let me run another of my brain dead questions by you. I can understand leaving the amp on all the time to speed up tube burn in, but what would be the purpose of playing your cdp too?

You cant burn in with out signal going thru.

It needs to see a signal and that signal needs to go through it, be amplified and then passed on to the speakers.
Do not leave the amp on without being connected to the speakers.
Are you saying that if I turn my amp on, and then go browse the web for 45 minutes w/o playing any music, the amp will not sound as good as if I had been playing music for those 45 minutes? In other words, does it make a difference whether you play music while warming up an amp?
Interesting question. My Cardinals needed sinal to run thru them to sound their best(about 30 mins), even after they warmed up for an hour or more-I cannot explain it, and I noticed it by accident really. Doesn't matter what the signal is, but it always helped them. I haven't tried it with my new amps, since I got into the habit of running signal thru them before settling down to my listening anyway.
Try this (unscientific) experiment. warm up your amp for say 30-45 mins.,what ever you normally do, and the next day, try warming it up for about 15 mins or so, them run signal thru it for say 30 mins, and see if its any better than normal. I have no idea if it will work for you or not.
