Have any of you guys built this preamp. I've been thinking of building this kit to partner my ME Sound 90 watt class A solid state power amp. I was thinking it looks like a cheap way to get into the world of tubes. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.
I am in the process of building one. I don't like the wood base so I am ordering a metal one ($12.50) from Mouser Electronics and I am going to move the inputs and outputs to the back. I am also thinking about building a remote volume control, $10 for a motor-driven dual potentiometer. The tube sockets are on back order so I am still waiting for them. For the price, nothing comes close, but I have not heard it yet. The instructions are well written and it isn't too complicated to build.olen.
Where did you get the motor-driven pots? Are they good quality components for only $10? I've looked in various catalogs and haven't seen any.
I have yet to recieve it, so I cannot tell you how it sounds. For $10 it probably won't be anything fancy. But it sure is convenient. They are in the Mouser Electronics' catalog; to request a catalog go to www.mouser.com, I recieved mine within a week.
I haven't actually built this unit myself, but I've heard great things about it. I've built the SEX amps and they sound great. The nice thing about building it yourself is that you can modify it to make improvements to your own taste. I am planning on eventually building one myself after some other projects.
