Hi All. I have a PS audio GCHA headphone amp which I use for headphone listening, and recently almost all listening is done via the PC and foobar. I have read up a lot about how much better ASIO is, and just wanted to ask if anyone has perhaps gotten the GCHA to work with ASIO.If not, is the only alternative a USB interface which has digital outs, to an external DAC, then via RCA to the GCHA; or a USB DAC which can run ASIO?
Follow Ups:
The USB interface on the GCHA is just like any other USB DAC - which means you can download ASIO4ALL or a similar driver. Note that this is not 'true' ASIO but rather a version of kernel streaming but better than going through kmixer.
Hi there and thanks for the info. I tried with ASIO4ALL before but got a lot of clicks and pops. Is that due to settings (I believe ASIO can have a lot of tweaks such as sample and bit rates, buffers etc)? Do you know which settings should be used for the GCHA?
just increase the buffers until the pops and clicks go away...
Thank muchly! Will give it a go. Also should I leave the bitrate / sampling rates at their default levels or try play with those too?I will be getting a USB interface soon which will enable proper ASIO to be used...will be interesting to see how it does against the GCHA alone, as it will then be feeding the GCHA via RCA inputs, effectively bypassing its internal DAC (which does not support proper ASIO).
keep the sample rates at 16/44.1 for the GCHA.No USB technically supports proper ASIO - ASIO is a soundcard protocol ... so I'm not sure what you are getting.
Hi there,I tried again with ASIO4ALL and I now remember why I was having troubles. I leave everything as is in terms of sample/bit rates; and have the buffer set to 1600ms. There are no pops/clicks, but there are two issues:
1. there is a very noticeable hiss in the background...like a very loud noisefloor, as if I was listening to a tape
2. a song would play fine for around 1 or even 2 minutes, then all of a sudden it would just all become loud white noise...like the noise you get from a TV when it is not tuned to a channel.Any ideas what this could be and how to remedy it?
BTW in the ASIO4ALL settings I disabled the check box which resamples all 44.1kHz to 48kHz.
