... the FDA would shut them down immediately. Some people are allergic to aspirin. Bad examples, since most of these products are indeed different formulations.

…but fortunately the FDA is paying attention. For fun, visit some of the nutritional groups. Just substitute ""cable" for "supplement" and you'll think you're back at Asylum ;-)There are tales how greedy peddlers will take generic multi-vitamins and create phony products claiming unique health benefits for each product. And of course there are their defenders.
Also interesting and like the Asylum is the distrust of science and modern test methods in most of these groups (one I visited actually bans DBT discussions!). Like some here that claim their ears are such precise instruments they can HEAR whether or not the speaker cable is laying on the floor or the metal purity in their outlets, nutritionophiles also claim they can FEEL the details of every molecule in their supplements.
I remember when all the pricey vitamin stuff started years ago, some news show did an investigation and concluded that some drug store generic brand that was the same formula as one-a-day, both cheap compared to what was out there (and still is even more so now) actually was the most effective in the sense that more of the actual vitamin was absorbed in the body and not pissed out or something. Even so, not a whole lot of it was absorbed, but more than the pricey stuff.
