If you buy the Maia 2000 power amp and you do not want to bi-amp, you will just run the pre-amp out from the Mira to the inputs of the Maia. If you want to bi amp you will split the pre-amp out signal and run one cable to the Maia and one cable back into the Mira "main-in". If you have any questions, just ask, I am a huge rega nut.

Hi,I'm also a big fan of Gandy's gear. I used to own a full P3/Planet/Mira/Jura combo. Still have the P3 and Juras, in fact.
Just heard the Aras. They're absolutely brilliant. At that price, who needs deep bass when bass notes are so clear and delineated? They're so fast it's hard to believe they're ported.
There's no question that the new CDPs are better, but what do you think of the original Mira vs. the 2000?
I've heard the 2000 a number of times and think it's a fair bit leaner; it doesn't have the sonic weight of the old gear.
Also, shame about some of the new tactile qualities. CDP lids and volume knobs now have a chintzier feel to them. However, as I understand it, the new knob is 'a better sounding unit'.Cheers,

While being maybe a little bit leaner (thought still not dry sounding to my ears), where the Mira 2000 shines over its predecessor is being consinderbly more grain free and smooth through the upper mids and top end.

I have Jura's and Alya's, I normally switch every week between the two. The mira and mira 2000 seem pretty much the same, except the volume control is different. I have heard both and I really like them, I have the old version(personally I like the old style). If you are looking for used Rega, though I haven't bought from them, audiogon seems to have decent listings. I have tried the new planet and liked it, but I want to get the old one. I am currently ordering a set of the new Rega Speaker cable and Interconnect. We will see how that turns out. As for thier turntables, I was given a Sota Comet, so I have not had the need to buy one, but I am thinking of getting a Rega Cartridge. I have also heard all the older Speakers they produced and want to hear the new elan speaker they came out with. If you really like rega and want to go more upscale latter I would recommend Naim electronics, rega is like jr. Naim. I have heard the new Naim 5 gear and it is awsome. As for the Alya's, like you said they sound really good, I also like thier Ara stand speakers as well. When driven by the mira they sound really great and have more then enough power. I have been thinking about bi amping my Jura's, but will wait to find an old version of the Maia. Email me what you think.
IMO, there's more benefit by improving your source rather then bi-amping. An old-style Jupiter/Io would probably go for the same money as a Maia, and bring *much* more improvement, "source first" and all that...Mike S
PS the only Rega gear I haven't been thrilled with are the Elys cart (good dynamics but exaggerated siblance) and Naos speakers (incoherent).
I just read your system layout so obviously you know about Naim, which rocks!!! I have actually seen your system list before, but when I tried your email it told me it didn't exsist. What mods did you make to your Juras?
My e-mail addy is out of date and I haven't figured out how to change it, sorry! My new one is mikesae@intergate.caI also prefer the look and feel of the old stuff. Hope you find older style Planet soon. Then you'll have some true synergy going on!
I'd still be enjoying my Rega system if it wasn't for a great deal on a Nait3. Since then, Naim has robbed me of much cash.As for the Juras, mine are the older ones. They have a Rega sticker on the fascia instead of the plastic badge. Not sure of the differeces except some sort of new tweeter.
I loved them with my old Mira and later, the Nait 3. When I moved to the 72/140, they became far too boomy. Too much wollop for Juras, I suspect.I added a fair bit of stuffing to the boxes, giving a more agile and even bass response in my particular room. The port no longer has that blow dryer effect anymore, however, some low bass was sacrificed. With much of the boom gone, the already bright highs were now more exposed.
I took the tweeter assembly off and then reglued the tweeter in with silicone. The theory being that the silicone acts as a damping between the tweeter and resonant cabinet. To my ears, everything seems more coherent and balanced now, their agility intact. Purely amateur stuff I know, but it worked wonders for me.Funny you mentioned the new Elas, as I've ordered a pair and they'll be in next week. Like you, I'll switch between Elas and Juras, depending on my mood :)
