Does anybody know the difference between the Nec 602 6xe and the Nec 602 6x? Is one more desirable? The 6xe is the cd-rom mentioned in the Positve Feedback DIY article by Ed Morawski. The 6x looks similar and appears to be of the same vintage. Thanks,

The 'x' in NEC602 6xe denotes external version. This was the model Positive Feedback used, I believe. The main difference between the external and internal versions are how they're powered. The external model has built-in ps supplies and the internal version is normally powered by the computer's ps. You can adapt an internal model to operate with an extenal ps.
Some will augue the computer ps is noisier than the built-in switching ps of the external cdr. But I think there is room for improvement is this area, for either model.
