Hi
I'm about too buy a new DAC, the Lavry DA10, but saw an ad for a used MF Trivista for about the same price. Actually I could probably save 2-300 on the used MF if I make a lower offer and it's accepted.I'm very curious if anyone has any opinion of either unit and can help me with my decision...
Why does MF make 'limited production' units?
Apparently only about 800 Trivista's made it out of the uk. I wonder
how that compares in numbers with other dacs in that price range. One negative side of few units is that there are fewer owners and
reviews available...

There is some controversy regarding the Lavry DA-10.http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/digital/messages/126969.html
The Lavry DA10 sounds great, I think that is all that matters. I bought one and like it. My Cary 303/200 may be better, but I have not A/B them, yet. (One is at work and the other is at home.)I found the Trivista 21 detailed and revealing. Unfortunately it made many of my CDs sound really really bad. I bought the Cary 303/200 instead and think it is a great DAC and CD player.
I owned the mf trivista21 for a while . I think about six months. I was running it with solid state bryston gear and the sony xa777es cd player. The reason it is limited production is that the metal tubes (some kind of military tube)is a limited supply that when out is out.As for the unit it is a beautiful unit ,very well built, heavy solid. When you put this dac in it is not a subtle difference but an obvious one. The detail is much increased and the soundstage moves forward a bit. I did not like the soundstage forward as I found it fatiguing. But take that with a grain of salt as it means nothing, it is only my taste and I can only say this happened with the gear I was using. It upsamples which I did not feel was an improvement so I left it at the lower setting.Again I have to state that it is a unit that is so attractive and built like a tank. If you like detail it will surely increase that it a big way. Good luck. PS I have not heard the other dac you mentioned.
