[ If we assume the picture represents the load end of a cable, and the telescoping shield (1) is not attached at the other end of the cable (floating), do you attach a 0.01 uF capacitor between the telescopic shield and the RCA barrel at the load end? Is this correct? ]Not quite. You would place the 0.01 uf DISC CERAMIC cap as you stated, but the source end of the extra shield would be connected to ground.
What this type of connection does, is provide a "floating shield" within the operating band of the cable, yet terminates the shield at higher RF frequencies.

I am also making the DIY digital cables. I am building the
cable using a 0.01 mfd ceramic capacitor, without the
telescoping shield.I am providing a link to an image illustrating how this cable could be made. If this is correct, I will leave this image posted as a reference for others who want to build this type of cable.
To see the image go to:

Thanks,

In the previous reply, I had an incorrect illustration of the DIY digital cable with telescoping shield and capacitor. I have corrected the image and Jon Risch approved it. Sorry for any confusion this might have caused.I hope this helps.

This is not how to connect a coax that does not have an additional outer shield braid, if using the coax stock, the braid MUST be hard connected to gorund at both ends.
