When I'm sitting down to do some serious listening I would prefer better tone and detail - that's why I keep my Rogues in triode mode now (although it's still nowhere near what SETs can provide). I'm mostly listening to blues, vocal jazz, acoustic, lighter pop. Nothing heavy on my main system. I'm just looking for the "you are there" experience. Detail, air, soundstage, tone - natural reproduction.
Follow Ups:
Just make sure your speakers are 8 ohm and 90 dB or better.
I'd still say you should try amp/speaker combo that gives a limit of 90 dB peak SPL and judge your most demanding music. That's about the best dynamics you can expect from a 45 or a 2A3, unless you go to extremely sensitive horns with their associated problems (phasing in a small room or with a "full range" single driver).
Live with that sound for a week and check if you are still similing...
Then and only then you can safely commit to a low-power SET.
