Hi there,

Thanks for your interest and advice. I thought I would update you since your emails. Someone else emailed me suggesting a tube was bad. Though I had tried a couple and found the same problem, I tried again this weekend, rolling tubes in and out of every socket on the left side. Though I don't have a tube tester, I used tubes that worked fine in the right side. So anyway, the problem is still there.

Then Tom S. reminded me to check the bias of the power tubes. I hadn't done that, so I did it this morning (hoping it would be that simple), but no luck, same problem. Also, Tom wrote that he called Jolida for some schematics, and they won't sell them because it's a discontinued model (?). I don't have schematics, but I'll try calling one guy who might.

Anyway, the resistor that was pressing against the wire that burnt shows signs of burn itself (the circuit board shows dark spots where it is connected); does that tell you anything? One more thing, I am not sure where the danger lies in the works; what should I be avoiding so I don't blow myself up?

One more thought, how could I test the controls (balance, selector) to be sure it's not them?

Thanks for your concern.

Jim
