RE: XLR

Improvement depends entirely on how the balanced circuit is implemented in your phono preamp, main preamp and power amp.
If the XLR output from the phono preamp is simply parallelled from the RCA output you may not hear any difference other than (maybe) a lowered noise floor.
If - however - your phono and main preamp have a dedicated balanced circuit connected to the XLRs it is more likely that you will be able to detect a difference.
In my system, which I think is very transparent, I get a more three-dimensional (front to back, width and height) soundstage using balanced XLRs than using unbalanced RCAs. But I'm mostly listening to orchestral classical music, where soundstage presentation is a critical part of the listening experience.
If you are listening to pop or rock music, where everything is recorded in a recording studio, you may not hear any diffrence at all.
