RE: Seeking suggestions for CAT6 cable...

I'm not a networking cable expert but even modest CAT6 will accommodate typical 1-Gigabit/Sec home networks. Many will also support faster speeds but possibly at reduced distances.

If you're doing your own termination it might take some research on which connector types to use, proper pin-outs, and the proper crimp tool.... and some practice. Or, you can pull all the cable yourself and possibly have a contractor come in and terminate to wall jacks and cable plugs.

P.S. The audiophile tendency is 'more is better' or the 'best current tech is better' but I've seen (right here on the Asylum) inmates who used audiophile branded high-end Ethernet cabling with the shield terminated at each end. Sounds like a great idea until the ground loop caused HUM in their system. The solution was to break the shield at one end. The simple way to do this is to couple the end-to-end shielded cable to a short unshielded patch cable..... or don't buy audiophile approved high-end Ethernet cables ;-)
