It simply sounds better to my ear than an equivalent gauge PVC insulated bare copper conductor. As for the use of larger than 16 AWG wire (18 AWG or even 20 AWG would have been fine) for a *very low current* DC device, I don't think there would be any benefit and perhaps some unnecessary self inductance involved, dunno. As for my bedroom system's high(er) current needs, my DC powered Spectron amplifiers (feed by an Astron RS-12A, 9 amp max power suppy), I'll be installing a twisted pair of 10 AWG mil-spec Teflon insulated silver plated copper wire to replace the 10 AWG bare copper/PVC automotive power wire I'm using at the moment (which also can't hold a decent twist like SPC/Teflon wire can). Sorry I can't provide a comment about the results of that upcoming swap at this time.
