for the Tom Evans DC PSU for Gyro/Orbe

I bought this based purely upon the review I read by Japapalous.
The one I bought also from Walrus is apparently only suitable for the Gyrodec and cost £700.It's serial number is only SN/0005 so it may be a new type solely for the Gyro. The description in the previous review matches the looks of mine of mine so I'm not sure what the difference is.

I haven't heard the Michell HR PSU so I can't compare them.
£700 is a ridiculous amount of money to most people for a power supply and it's an awful lot of money to me to be honest, but if I get 10 years out of it I'll be delighted.

To say I'm delighted is an understatement.Whilst not wishing to criticise the Gyro with the standard PSU I've always felt it was a bit lightweight with a bit of glassy quality to the sound.Great with acoustic stuff but there always seemed to be something missing when listening to anything needing a bit of power and weight.I love a bit of reggae and around 50% of my collection consists of this genre.
I don't believe in burn in but the treble with the Tom Evans seemed a little harsh to my ears at first and this seems to have sweeted considerably after about a week.

With regard to improvements I'll try to keep it short :

Better rhythmic flow - I can't stop tapping my feet.Instruments essential to the rhythm like percussion instruments seems to have more emphasis.

More musicality - bass lines are solid and tuneful but still tight.

Bass extension - parts of the bassline which I thought didn't exist are now part of the tune.I'd say the bass has improved 2 to 3 fold.I'm not exaggerating.

Soundstage - I have a small room so I've not noticed any greater width or depth but instrument seperation is a lot better.

Voices - seem more natural and and have a better tone. I can understand what they are saying better - I can actually understand what Van Morrison is singing as well as Ali Campbell(from UB40) which is a minor miracle.

Brass instruments and lead guitars - are a lot smoother and less in your face which I personally prefer. It adds to the musicality of the Gyro and takes away some of it's analytical tendancies which used to annoy me somewhat.

Around the same time I ordered the PSU I ordered a Schroder Model 2 which I'm still waiting for.I'm beginning to wonder if I've made a mistake as I could live very happily with the sound of the sysytem now, with it's origin Live modded RB250.

Anyway I've no affiliation with Tom Evans - I'm not even an audiophile per say. I'm not much of an expert, but I do know I'm enjoying my music again just as I did when I was a teenager with the added bonus of a better system.

It is an awful lot of money for what it is, but it's very well made and
I can recommend it without hesitation.

Product Weakness: Price.
Product Strengths: Bass extension.Musicality.Timing.Instrument seperation.Smoother sound.Voices more intelligible.
