I lumped these all together, since they are working as a single unit, but I'll try to give a break down in sound as I see fit. I suspect the majority of the sound quality is from the cartridge, butthe TT and arm have their share too. After breaking in the Glider(2.2), and setting up the VTA/SRA, I finally got a handle on the sound. What we have here is incredable detail and smoothness, that I'm just not used to. This is totally non-fatiguing (unless they are bad recordings). There is alot more ambience than I'm used to. Extension in both directions is excellent, rivaling my CD player. The pace and speed in very good, as is its ability to unravels complex passages. Last night I listened to Steve Jollife's "Journey out of body"(?) album. I always thought it was "ok", but mildly confused. This is the first time it actually made musical sense.
The soundstage is huge, imaging is good, etc. The background is absolutely quiet-this I attribute to the Basis, with its seperate motor. The background is "black" like digital, its just silent, like there is "air" between the notes.
I haven't listened to any CDs since I bought it. The clamp takes some getting used to, since it doesn't screw on like the VPi clamps-it "clamps onto the spindle
