for the ST-4000
Finally made the plunge and purchased the Heart ST-4000 from Holland (115V version) [actually $332.87USD when ordered on 7/31, price seems to fluctuate due to their country's currency] instead of the $350.00 Jolida tuner (which looked bad on website pics ---even Jolida's own website shows a poor and small picture of it as if they are not that proud to display it...). Shipping by UPS was INCLUDED (took 7 days for delivery to Hawaii); the product was double boxed/no damage of any kind...(whew!)Uses two (2) 6922 tubes mounted vertically (comes stock with Sovtek), though Rik Stoet Audio (english version---go to 'www.tubes4all.com') says it will sound better with the Phillips 6922 tubes. They stocked the Sovtek tubes as OE due to their lower cost and better availability. The circuit boards look fantastic/tidy, the front panel looks very good and not "busy" in appearance.
Having had the tubes burning in since arrival on Friday afternoon, as I write this mini review on Monday night, I am pleased with my purchase.
Sounds quite musical on classical stations which show its depth/soundstage when compared to rock/pop/top 40 radio stations (bass is thin when compared to other sources as such cdp/tt due to its medium). Reception is quite good, pulling in many FM stations with strong signal strength to where I live (YMMV) with its supplied lead-type FM wire antenna.
Product Weakness: unable to use "RDS" format - only European countries have this radio data system :-( , front panel's florescent numerals indicating station/meter rating cannot be turned off (always on) Product Strengths: build quality/great appearance , quick "stand-by" on/off switch
